Two-wheeled Vehicle Registration

To register a two-wheeled vehicle, you are asked to bring the required documents to the Transportation Administration Division of the Gu (District) or Gun (County) office, or Eup or Myeon (Village) or Dong Community Service Center (in Gijang-gun and Gangseo-gu) responsible for your neighborhood.

Vehicles requiring registration : Two-wheeled vehicles with a maximum speed of at least 25km/h. Exempted from registration: mini bikes, motorboards, electric wheelchairs and other two-wheeled vehicles which are not suitable to be driven on the road.

Taking out insurance after preparing required documents Documents required for Purchase of a New Vehicle: Liability Insurance Policy, New Product Certificate of the two-wheeled vehicle or Import License or other documents proving it has been imported (only in case of imported two-wheeled vehicles), ID Card, Seal
For Purchase of a Used Vehicle with a number: Liability Insurance Policy, Sales Agreement, Certificate of Seller's Seal Impression, Use Report Certificate
For Purchase of a Used Vehicle with no number: Liability Insurance Policy, Sales Agreement, Use Discontinuation Certificate
Filling out Use Report Form Fill out the Use Report Form, which is prepared at the relevant District Office or Eup or Myeon or Dong Community Service Center (in Gijang-gun and Gangseo-gu). Then, submit it along with other required documents to the official in charge.
Registration Tax, Acquisition Tax, License Plate and Seal Charge Pay registration tax, acquisition tax, license plate and seal charges to the official in charge, and receive Use Report Certificate
License Plate Attachment and Completion All procedures will have been completed when the license plate is finally attached to the vehicle. Always carry the Use Report Certificate.

According to the revision of the Automobile Management Act, the registration of two-wheeled vehicles with an engine capacity of less than 50cc which were purchased before January 1, 2012 is now required by June 30, 2012. Any such two-wheeled vehicles purchased after January 1, 2012 require immediate registration before being ridden.

Report of change of address or owner's name

Any change of address or change in owner's name needs to be reported within 15 days (Article 48 of the Automobile Management Act).
When a transfer of ownership has taken place, it needs to be reported to the District Office, or Eup or Myeon or Dong Community Service Center (in Gijang-gun and Gangseo-gu) responsible for the neighborhood where you live.

Penalties related to a change of address or owner's name
[ Violations will result in a fine (of up to 100,000 won).]

If you voluntarily report a violation, you may receive a reduced fine.※ Riding a two-wheeled vehicle without registration will result in a fine of 500,000 won

Taking out insurance and penalties related to failure to take out insurance
It is mandatory for the owner of a two-wheeled vehicle to have insurance. Violations will result in a fine.

In case of cancellation or discontinuation of use

When no longer using your two-wheeled vehicle, you can report cancellation or discontinuation of use as follows:

Required Documents Use Report Certificate, License Plate, Seal, or Certificate issued by the Police to confirm that the vehicle has been lost or stolen
Reporting to Competent District Office, or Eup or Myeon or Dong Community Center (in Gijang-gun and Gangseo-gu) Visit the relevant District Office, or Eup or Myeon or Dong Community Service Center, and submit the required documents to the official in charge of cancellation or discontinuation of use regarding two-wheeled vehicles
