As home to about 7 million people, Yangon is a former capital and the current commercial center of Myanmar.
The nation's only international port is also located in Yangon. With the recent opening up of its economy, the foreign investment inflow has significantly increased,
and over 100 Korean companies are now doing business there. Daily non-stop flights between Incheon and Yangon began in September 2012.
Following the high-level official visits including President Lee Myung-bak's visit to Myanmar in May 2012, Yangon Mayor Hla Myint's visit to Busan in September 2012 and Myanmar President Thein Sein's visit to Korea in October 2012, the bilateral exchanges between the two countries and the two cities have substantially increased.
January 14, 2013: Mayor Hur Nam-sik visited the City of Yangon and signed the Agreement on the Establishment of the Sister City Relationship with Mayor Hla Myint.
