Plot History

Japanese colonial period
  • Used as horse racing track under Japanese rule (1930 and after)
  • Used as training camps and campsites for Japanese army during World War II
After Korean Independence, 1945
  • Occupied by American army to build Korea-stationed American military headquarters after liberation from Japan in 1945. Headquarters closed down in 1948 when the Korean government was established.
  • Used by American Consulate and UN-affiliated organizations after American army withdrawal
After Korean War broke out, 1950
  • Used to facilitate storage and provision of army supplies for American military stationed in Busan until early August 2006.
  • Camp Hialeah closed in August 10, 2006
Where the name Hialeah came from
  • Hialeah is a city in Florida, United States American military headquarters were built in Busan, in September 1950. The name Hialeah originated from a city in the U.S., 'base Hialeah', the hometown of the first commander-in-chief at the headquarters. Hialeah means 'beautiful meadow' in the Indian language.
