Indian Classical (Odissi) Dance Recital by Ms. Kavita Dwibedi
Movie Screening: I am Kalam
Odissi is one of the renowned classical dance forms of India. It originated as a temple dance in eastern India, performed to propitiate God through devotion. It is a very graceful, lyrical and vibrant dance where the nuances of the narrative are communicated through delicate gestures, symbolic poses and expressive facial movements.
Danseuse Kavita Dwibedi
Born and brought up in a family of practioners of traditional arts, Kavita Dwibedi has performed all over the world and has received countless awards for her excellent performances. She lives in New Delhi and heads the Odissi Academy which organizes the annual National Odissi Festival called Jayadeva Utsav. This will be the first performance in Korea for Dwibedi who says ‘For me, Dance is the beginning of a spiritual journey. Dance is like a pooja (prayer) and meditation. Dance is like a celebration of life, a gift of God’. www.kavitadwibedi.com
