Busan Christmas Festival

Winter wonderland

Centum City, which is located in the Haeundae District and ranks as one of the city’s newest attractions, provides a perfect spot to soak up some holiday cheer.

The Shinsegae Department Store and the Lotte Department Store both have erected Christmas trees, lifting spirits as the cold sets in. The tree in front of Shinsegae Centum City stands 20 meters high and is wrapped in thousands of colorful LED lights. Shinsegae, which set up the tree in November, also spruced up other areas of the store including its fountain garden and the poles located in Centum Square, incorporating plenty of lights and decorations. The holiday displays here provide plenty of fodder for pictures and, of course, memories.

Incredible holiday beach views

As the end of each year approaches, a veritable forest of beautiful trees sprouts up along the areas near Haeundae Beach.

The Haeundae District and major hotels in the region set up a row of Christmas trees stretching 4 kilometers from the Haeundae Dongbaek Island entrance to Haeundae Beach to Dalmaji Road to Songjeong Beach. It’s quite an impressive sight, never failing to impress visitors and tourists seeing it for the first time.  New this year, the trees that stand along the 1.5-kilometer road from Haeundae Station to Haeundae Beach entrance have been decorated with lights, making this into a vibrant holiday area and providing a picturesque, picture-worthy view of Haeundae Beach at night.

Another “must-see” site is the road that connects the Westin Chosun Hotel, the Haeundae Grand Hotel, the Novotel Ambassador and the Paradise Hotel, which is also lined with beautifully-lit trees.

Additionally, the Haeundae District has decorated 22 trees near the Haeundae Beach event square.

Ringing in the New Year right

Busan City is setting up a New Year-focused holiday tower at the fountain in front of City Hall. Officials plan to light it up on December 17. The tower, which measures 15.5 meters high and 3 meters wide, will have roughly 8,000 light bulbs. It will come to life after sunset and stay on until 1 a.m. nightly through the end of January.

The word “Happy New Year” will be written on the tower in Korean, English and Chinese. The tower will remain lit until 6 a.m. on Christmas, New Year’s day and the lunar New Year holiday.

A festive welcome

Busan Station, which serves as the official entrance to the city for many visitors, has erected a large Christmas tree to celebrate the festive season and spread some holiday cheer. The tree, which rises 12 meters high and is 6 meters wide, has about 25,000 LED lights, which give off different colors depending on where you view them from. More trees have been set up near the ticket counters.
